The Making of Our Regenerative Denim
Kayseri, a historic stop along the Silk Road Turkish region of Central Anatolia, is home to Orta, a 70-year-old denim mill blending tradition with innovation. Founded in 1953 as a spinning and weaving mill, Orta shifted to denim production in 1985, focusing on ethical sourcing and sustainability. TOAST has partnered with them for five years, drawn to their use of organic, locally sourced cotton and their commitment to durability.
Orta’s Indigo Flow dyeing system reduces water usage by up to 70%, a vital innovation in water-stressed Turkey. This method eliminates the need for post-dye washing, minimizing environmental impact. The result is a deep, inky denim that shapes itself to the wearer over time, creating a personal connection.
Transparency is at Orta’s core. Its Orta Blu app tracks the environmental footprint of each fabric, empowering designers to make informed choices. Its philosophy remains simple: to create new with less.
