We asked Nikki, our Head of Buying, how to wear cropped trousers.
The Long Crop
The Wide Leg Denim Jean is a long cropped trouser that skims across the ankle bone and looks best with low cut footwear - I wear mine with ecru Leather Trainers and a simple sneaker sock. I add some vibrant colour to the outfit with the Cashmere Wool Neat Sweater and wear the Stripe Cotton Long Sleeve Tee underneath - I love how the stripe peeks through at the cuffs, adding interest and texture. The best coat for this look is the Boiled Wool Duffle Coat in navy, which keeps the outfit casual and playful.
The Boyish Crop
For a more relaxed and luxurious look I wear the cropped Navy Pull On Pinstripe Trouser with a Gold Silk PJ Shirt. I tuck in the PJ shirt and make sure that the trouser sits just below the waist line giving it a more modern feel. A buttoned up Chunky Merino Cardigan worn over the PJ Shirt adds weight and texture. The Wool Socks in sawdust and the burgundy Solovair Laura Derby Shoes finish off the look. Burgundy goes well with navies and golds, giving a boyish strength which is juxtaposed against a feminine silk shirt. A shorter length coat such as the Boiled Wool Coat in either grey or navy looks great with this outfit.
The Slouchy Crop
I wear the Wool Cotton Pull On Trouser with a dark apple Heathery Lambswool Sweater during colder months. I like to layer a feminine shirt underneath so that you can see the collar, with its lovely ruffle detail. The Cheaney Chelsea Boot is flattering around the ankle and the sock design pokes through at the top - giving a little bit of pattern to this outfit. The sweater should be slightly tucked in and I'd complete this look with the Wool Mohair Long Coat - the vibrant green within the check coat beautifully picking up the dark green of the sweater.
